Job DescriptionThis role is categorized as hybrid, meaning the selected candidate will be expected to work on‑site at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week (or other frequency determined by their manager). This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and independent judgment to lead product development efforts and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver an integrated and balanced subsystem solution.Key ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with cross-functional partners to develop robust, balanced solutions aligned with program requirementsSupport system architects, lead integrators, and system leads in guiding studio, program, and manufacturing teamsDrive alignment across teams to balance innovation, cost, mass, timing, and manufacturing feasibilityInterface with Body Manufacturing, Body Shop, General Assembly, and VDDV/CAE teams to meet SSTS, dimensional, packaging, and performance requirementsDevelop and evaluate engineering alternatives based on cost, weight, timing, DFMEA, and quality targetsCommunicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external partnersEnsure theme development supports high-quality, on-time executionTechnical ResponsibilitiesApply technical expertise in closure subsystem development and system integrationDemonstrate working knowledge of closure components (latches, hinges, counterbalance systems, power actuators, handles, sensors)Understand and apply SSTS requirements across vehicle programsAssess risks and support decision-making to ensure quality and program timingBenchmark competitive solutions and industry trendsCollaborate with Technical Specialist (TS) teams and participate in GSSLT reviewsShare best practices and lessons learned across programs and platformsUnderstand closure manufacturing processes, including stamping, body, paint, and general assemblyProgram & Execution ResponsibilitiesLead the Product Development Team (PDT) to deliver subsystem milestones on time and within program constraintsRun effective subsystem PDT meetings and manage deliverables across multiple programsExecute quality processes with rigor and disciplineCo-lead system design reviews, peer reviews, and DRBTR reviews to ensure design integrity and complianceManage key deliverables through the Vehicle Development Process (VDP), including:Math releasesStatements of Requirements (SORs)Sourcing and tool kickoffTest readiness and validationICDs, CRVs, MRDs for build eventsPPAP completionUtilize GM systems and tools (ECR, PRTS, eMerge, TWO, PPAP)Support sourcing activities with Purchasing and Supplier Quality teamsDevelop and execute subsystem validation plansApply robust engineering tools (DFSS, OPEX) to optimize designsQuality & Launch ResponsibilitiesEnsure high-quality, on-time program launchesAlign GD&T strategy with dimensional capability and assembly requirementsLead root cause analysis for dimensional and integration issuesPartner with Manufacturing to develop and execute closure system validation plansRequired QualificationsBachelor of Science in EngineeringRequired Skills & ExperienceExperience with engineering operations, specifications, release processes, and best practicesStrong interpersonal and collaboration skills across cross-functional and global teamsAdvanced analytical and problem-solving abilitiesAbility to manage ambiguity and drive timely decisionsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong program and project management experienceSolid physics-based, structured problem-solving approachPreferred QualificationsMaster’s degree in Engineering or related fieldDFSS Black Belt Certification and/or Red X JourneymanExperience with fixture design and product validationExperience with budget planning and cost management GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
