This description is intended to outline the primary responsibilities, general nature and level of work being performed by teammates assigned to this position. Responsible for the interpretation and data entry of prescriptions. Dispenses and packages prescription drugs for review by the pharmacist. Maintains orders, receives, and stocks drug inventory. May be required to contact physician offices for clarification, etc. Serves as a model for customer service and other vital behaviors, and instills this value in all teammates. Creates an environment for continual learning and encourages an open dialogue among teammates. Provides leadership and motivation within the pharmacy to promote a culture reflective of Lowe's guiding principles, core values, and vision.
- Generate pharmacy labels as allowed by law.
- Obtain refill and new prescription information as required.
- Fill prescription orders, process orders and performs specialty compounding under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
- Assists in pharmacy inventory as needed.
- Ensure compliance with Company policies and procedures.
- Handle high volume phone orders and troubleshooting.
- Perform all functions of prior authorization processing including obtaining medical justification from doctor, contacting client with updates, and working directly with insurance companies in an effort to obtain authorizations.
- Answer only those questions or requests which are within the pharmacy technician's scope of practice.
- Verify information is documented accurately.
- Participate in educational and professional programs and/or review professional literature on an ongoing basis to maintain knowledge and competency in current and developing techniques, professional standards, and the services offered by Lowe's.
- Pharmaceutical services related to the preparation and dispensing of drugs and other pharmaceutical supplies to patients at home under the supervision of the pharmacist.
- Assist in resolving patient equipment problems under emergency conditions.
- Assemble, troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment.
- Assume on-call responsibilities during non-business hours in accordance with Lowe's policy.
- Assist with implementation of quality improvement program to meet company and accreditation standards.
- Must be able to perform other duties assigned.
- Keep work area maintained appropriately to ensure a safe work environment for teammates and customers.
- Monitor and update all patient information maintained on computer (prescriptions, profiles, and other patient information).
- Assists in checking for expired and outdated drugs. Accurately processes returned goods in accordance with company policy and procedures.
- Communicate and enforce HIPAA and OBRA guidelines properly and thoroughly.
- Processes Workers Compensation paperwork.
- Adhere to all compliance of company policies, programs, procedures and guidelines
- Work with teammates to identify the root causes of issues and inefficiencies.
- Constantly interacts with teammates to ensure that all teammates understands Lowe's expectations.
Training and Experience: High School diploma and 18 years of age.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Knowledge of medication brand and generic names and medical terminology. Possess good customer relations skills. Must posses above average math skills. Must have good communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to read, write, analyze, interpret and understand the English language.
Licenses, Registration and Certification: Valid Pharmacy Technician in the State of Texas or working on completion of certification
Works in a well lit, well ventilated area. Subject to communicable disease.
Pharmacy Technician Competency
Light work- exerting 25-50 pounds of force occasionally, and 10-20 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 15 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to operate office machinery and Pharmacy equipment. Must posses good audio, visual and hearing acuity. Requires walking and/or standing up to a significant degree. Must be able to climb, stand, bend, push or pull, twist, grasp, squeeze, stoop, kneel, squat, reach, handle, finger and feel. Subject to psychological stress.
