This role is designed for nationally respected ophthalmologists who bring experience in clinical governance, multidisciplinary program development, quality improvement, health system leadership, or scalable specialty model expansion. While the clinical focus may span advanced ophthalmic platforms including cataract and refractive surgery, glaucoma, retina and vitreoretinal disease, cornea and external disease, oculoplastics, pediatric ophthalmology, neuro ophthalmology, and complex anterior and posterior segment conditions, the perspective of an ophthalmologist is invaluable in protocol standardization, enterprise oversight, perioperative safety assurance, and structured, systems-based ophthalmic care delivery. As an Ophthalmology Advisory Board Member, you will provide high level strategic guidance to ensure expanding ophthalmology programs maintain clinical integrity, procedural excellence, operational scalability, and measurable patient outcomes. You will collaborate with executive leadership, surgical service line administrators, perioperative and ambulatory operations teams, and data science partners to strengthen governance infrastructure, quality frameworks, and responsible growth strategies across cataract and refractive platforms, retina services, ambulatory surgery centers, technology integration, and comprehensive ophthalmic care delivery. Originally launched in a former urgent care space to enable rapid deployment, the clinic reached capacity quickly, with appointments booked months in advance reflecting significant unmet demand for proactive cognitive care. Three additional clinics are in development, with broader national expansion underway. ATCA is building a repeatable, specialist supported specialty model that expands access to structured cognitive evaluation and longitudinal management while maintaining clinical rigor and operational scalability. Seamless System Integration: ATCA’s care model integrates within the existing healthcare ecosystem. Treatments are reimbursed by Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and most major commercial insurers, reducing barriers to access and accelerating patient adoption. Focused on Outcomes: In a study utilizing ATCA’s AI driven protocol, 75% of patients with mild cognitive impairment demonstrated no further cognitive decline. This represents a data driven, proactive approach that complements traditional management pathways and emphasizes measurable outcomes. Advanced Therapeutic Options: Eligible patients may have access to TB006, an FDA approved therapy available for compassionate use, providing a potential treatment pathway for certain dementias, including Alzheimer’s disease. Responsibilities Include Clinical Governance & Enterprise Oversight: Provide board-level advisory leadership to ensure protocol standardization, perioperative and ambulatory safety standards, AAO aligned quality frameworks, subspecialty governance integration (retina, glaucoma, cornea, refractive, pediatric, oculoplastics), and system-wide ophthalmic quality assurance infrastructure. Programmatic Scalability & Service Line Architecture: Advise executive leadership on the design and replication of high performing ophthalmology service models, including cataract and refractive platforms, retina networks, glaucoma programs, and ambulatory surgery center optimization to enable regional and national expansion without compromising clinical integrity. Quality, Data & Outcomes Strategy: Guide the development of longitudinal ophthalmic outcomes measurement, registry participation (IRIS® Registry and subspecialty datasets), complication surveillance, return to OR reduction strategies, visual acuity outcome benchmarking, and enterprise reporting aligned with national standards and value-based care metrics. Executive & Interdisciplinary Alignment: Partner with health system leadership, optometric networks, anesthesiology, endocrinology, neurology, primary care, advanced practice providers, and operational teams to ensure coordinated, patient-centered ophthalmic care delivery across medical and surgical settings. Technology & Innovation Stewardship: Provide strategic oversight on responsible adoption of advanced intraocular lens technologies, femtosecond laser systems, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), vitreoretinal surgical platforms, diagnostic imaging innovations (OCT, widefield imaging), AI enabled diagnostics, and digital health integration within ophthalmology programs. Health System Strategy & Reimbursement Alignment: Advise on positioning ophthalmology programs within hospital systems, ambulatory networks, referral ecosystems, bundled payment initiatives, site of care optimization, and reimbursement models affecting cataract surgery, retina therapeutics, glaucoma interventions, and comprehensive vision services. Strategic Risk & Growth Advisory: Offer insight on governance maturity, credentialing and privileging standards, ASC development, co-management frameworks, compliance safeguards, reputational risk mitigation, and sustaining clinical excellence and academic credibility during accelerated growth and multisite expansion.
