Job Title: CNC Machinist
Job Description

The CNC Machinist sets up, operates, and maintains CNC equipment to produce high-quality components and parts in a production environment. This role performs minor program edits when needed, conducts in-process quality checks, and carries out routine and preventative maintenance to ensure consistent, reliable machine performance. The machinist collaborates closely with the production team to meet quality standards, dimensional tolerances, and production schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Set up CNC machines to produce parts in accordance with production drawings, blueprints, and specified tolerances.
  • Operate CNC mills and/or lathes to manufacture a variety of components and parts in a production environment.
  • Perform minor CNC program modifications as needed to optimize part quality and machine efficiency.
  • Read and interpret production drawings to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements.
  • Conduct in-process inspections throughout production to verify product quality and adherence to specifications.
  • Use precision measuring tools, such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, and small hole gages, to confirm part dimensions.
  • Observe machines during operation to ensure optimal performance, part quality, and adherence to production schedules.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues that arise during machine operation and take corrective action to minimize downtime.
  • Select and apply appropriate cutting tools, including drills, end mills, inserts, and taps, based on material and job requirements.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance tasks to maintain equipment reliability and extend machine life.
  • Clean and maintain machines, tools, and work area before and after each shift to ensure a safe and organized workspace.
  • Follow established safety procedures and quality standards while working in a machine shop environment.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret production drawings and blueprints, including dimensions and tolerances.
  • Proficiency in basic math and the use of a calculator for shop-related calculations.
  • Experience operating CNC equipment in a production facility, specifically CNC mills and/or lathes.
  • Knowledge of cutting tools such as drills, end mills, lathe inserts, and taps.
  • Knowledge of precision measuring tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gages, and small hole gages.
  • Technical degree in a relevant specialty or 2–4 years of experience in machining or a related field.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English to follow work instructions, drawings, and safety procedures.
  • Mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with machine operation and basic troubleshooting.
  • Ability to perform machine setups and changeovers efficiently while maintaining quality standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and its application in machining.
  • Experience performing minor CNC programming edits to improve part quality or process efficiency.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to performing accurate in-process inspections.
  • Ability to perform routine and preventative maintenance on CNC machines and related equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve machining and equipment issues.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced production environment with a focus on meeting schedules and quality targets.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively with others in a machine shop setting.

Work Environment

This role is based in a machine shop environment, working directly with CNC mills, lathes, and related machining equipment. You will spend most of your time on the shop floor, operating machinery, performing setups, inspections, and maintenance tasks. The environment is production-focused, with an emphasis on safety, cleanliness, and organization, including routine cleaning of machines and work areas before and after each shift. You will regularly use precision measuring instruments and hand tools, and collaborate with other machinists and production staff to meet quality and scheduling requirements.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Louis, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
