Accounting Assistant at Neptunelines. About the role Neptunelines is seeking a dedicated Accounting Assistant to join our dynamic team in Athens, Piraeus. Key facts Location: Athens, Piraeus Engagement: Full-time Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience Visa: Sponsorship available for qualified candidates What you'll do Assist in the preparation and maintenance of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. Process accounts payable and receivable transactions, including invoice verification and payment processing. Support month-end and year-end closing activities, including reconciliations and journal entries. Maintain organized financial records and documentation for audits and internal reviews. Collaborate with other departments to gather necessary financial information and resolve discrepancies. Prepare and submit tax returns and other regulatory filings in a timely manner. Assist in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures to enhance efficiency. Provide support during internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation and responding to inquiries. Monitor and analyze financial data to identify trends and variances, providing insights to management. Participate in training and development initiatives to stay updated on accounting best practices and regulations. Utilize accounting software and tools to streamline processes and improve data accuracy. Communicate effectively with vendors, clients, and team members to foster positive relationships and ensure smooth operations. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting or a similar role, preferably within the maritime or logistics sector. Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations. Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, in Greek and English. A proactive approach to problem-solving and a willingness to learn. Nice to have Experience with maritime accounting practices or familiarity with the shipping industry. Knowledge of tax regulations and compliance requirements specific to Greece. Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent is a plus. Experience with financial forecasting and budgeting processes. Familiarity with data analysis tools or software. Skills & tools The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and numerical skills, with a solid foundation in accounting principles. Proficiency in accounting software is essential, along with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting. The ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with team members and external stakeholders is crucial for success in this role. A proactive mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement will be highly valued.
